Frequently Asked Questions

Here is a short list of frequently asked questions. If there is a question and answer that you would like to see listed please contact us at info@spencerelectric.com

1.

When is it time to call an electrician?

(a) If you are purchasing an older home, you will need some type of electrical work or upgrade done to meet the demands of new electronic equipment in use today.

(b) If the lights in your home go dim when you plug an electrical appliance in.

(c) Even the simplest installations should be done by a qualified electrician. I have had customers who replaced a 40 watt light bulb with a 100 watt bulb because they did not have enough light. This can cause a fire!

2.

Where do I put GFI's?

A GFI should be located in any area where a person using an electrical appliance could come in contact with water. For all practical purposes, these areas include bathrooms, kitchens and exterior locations.

3.

How do I verify that an electrical contractor is Licensed and Insured in the state of Georgia.

Ask for a copy of the state issued card then visit the website of the Secretary of  State and look for Professional Licensure. You will then be able to input license number and name to verify legitimacy. Ask for a copy of their county issued business license.

For insurance information simply ask for an insurance certificate and call the number listed to verify.
